The radiator can be badly plugged up, which often masquerades as the thermostat being stuck. The impeller on the back of the water pump may not actually be moving any coolant because it’s broken off or is massively corroded. There may be air that needs to be bled out of the cooling system.

If I turn the dial to Hot Water + Central Heating now the boiler will just fire up and central heating will come on, even if Hive receiver is off so Hive isn't controlling anything.. You can set the target temperature ridiculously low at the time you want the heating to be off. I usually set mine to around 18 degrees, so on very cold days, the heating will come on even if we are out.
